This accelerated bridge construction (ABC) project included the rehabilitation of the existing 802’ long State Route 177 (Germantown Road) bridge over the Wolf River. Construction times were limited to 5 weekend closures and 2 10-day closures due to the high traffic volumes along this route. All closures were limited to one direction of travel at a time. The 56-hour, weekend closures were utilized for the removal and replacement of the approach slab foundations. The 10-day closures consisted of hydrodemolition and PMC overlay of the existing deck, expansion joint removals and replacements, and approach slab removals and replacements. Extensive planning and close coordination with TDOT, subcontractors and field personnel allowed for the project to be completed in 1 weekend and 1 10-day closure per travel direction. All closures and the overall project were completed ahead of schedule and traffic was reopened ahead of closure deadlines.
