Interstate 40 Design/Build DB1201

Dement successfully teamed with Gresham Smith and Partners (GSP) on this design-build (D-B) project to reconstruct the I-40 interchange at SR 222. GSP provided the design services for the roadway, bridge, retaining wall concepts and traffic signals along with right-of-way and environmental management services. The project included the phased replacement of the existing, 2-lane SR 222 bridge over I-40 with a new, 5-lane bridge; 3 retaining walls; reconstruction of the 4 concrete interchange ramps; 2 new traffic signals and approximately 1.2 miles of roadway reconstruction.

Dement and GSP developed the bridge design to utilize retaining walls along I-40 in an effort to shorten the bridge length at the interchange. By implementing this design, the team was able to reduce the overall cost of the project and provide a better value to the Owner.
