Lamar Avenue Reconstruction – Memphis, TN
Location
Located in Memphis near the Mississippi border, this project focused on a key section of Lamar Avenue in Shelby County, a major route for freight and commercial traffic.
Scope
Our teams rebuilt and widened nearly 2.5 miles of roadway, including Lamar Avenue and a segment of Holmes Road. Crews replaced an at-grade crossing with a new interchange at Holmes, built a 7-lane bridge, and handled major utility relocations involving six providers. The team also moved over 190,000 cubic yards of material, installed new drainage systems, poured concrete ramps, placed base stone, and finished the job with fresh asphalt paving, all while managing steady freight traffic through the site.
Outcome
Delivered in July 2022, the project was completed on time and brought meaningful improvements to traffic flow and safety in a heavily used industrial corridor. By separating local and through traffic and improving capacity, the upgrades helped reduce congestion and provide more reliability for freight and commuter routes.
U.S. Highway 41 Slide Repairs – Haletown, TN
Location
Heavy rainfall caused the collapse of a 1.2-mile section of U.S. 41 in Haletown, Marion County, disrupting a critical alternate route to Chattanooga.
Scope
We responded quickly to stabilize five damaged areas along the highway. We gained approval to shut down the road for a week, using that time to carve a temporary lane into the mountain to reduce traffic congestion.
From there, we reinforced five slide-prone zones using 138,395 feet of soil nails and 34,107 square feet of shotcrete. Our team constructed four retaining walls, installed horizontal drainage systems to manage groundwater pressure, and added new drainage crossings to redirect surface runoff safely.
Outcome
Despite challenging terrain and limited access, the project was delivered on time. The repairs strengthened the roadway, reduced future slide risk, and restored reliable access for freight and commuter traffic.
Germantown Road Bridge Over Wolf River – Memphis, TN
Location
This project took place on Germantown Road (State Route 177) in Memphis, a key commuter route that runs along the Wolf River in Shelby County.
Scope
Crews rehabilitated an 802-foot bridge using accelerated bridge construction techniques. The work involved replacing approach slabs, repairing the bridge deck, and installing new joint systems. Due to the route’s heavy daily traffic, all work was confined to short-term directional closures, specifically a series of weekend and 10-day shutdowns that allowed one side of the bridge to remain open at all times.
Outcome
Through careful coordination and precise scheduling, the team completed each phase ahead of time. Traffic resumed earlier than expected, and the project was delivered faster than planned, reducing public disruption and ensuring the safety of thousands of daily drivers.
